New Pitlochry Furniture Business Defies Trends
With so many furniture companies going into receivership why would anyone start a business selling sofas, mattresses and bedroom furniture in the current climate? Country Sofas in Pitlochry reckons it has something very special to offer, and is thus setting out to defy trends and show that higher quality can actually cost less.
Business owner Miriam Galt told Comment that Country Sofas was born out of a need. “People want comfortable, well made, higher quality furniture with distinctive personal appeal, but don’t want to spend a fortune. This is true for luxury custom built products and ‘budget’ lines,” she said.
“In addition, many tourism accommodation providers upgrading facilities to remain competitive are constrained in choice by fire compliance standards”.
As a new, self-catering provider seeking to offer luxury on a low budget, Miriam was surprised to discover how difficult it was to find furniture that fitted the style and quality that she was looking for – at a price she could afford. And then, how far afield she had to go to get it!
The furniture industry, having enjoyed cheap imports from Asia, is struggling under unfavourable exchange rates, increasingly expensive goods and transport costs. Customers are also tiring of cheaply made imported furniture, albeit re-branded, which is often uncomfortable, doesn’t stand up to normal wear and tear and originates from unregulated sources.
More for Less
With prices set to continue rising, how can a small local business actually deliver more for less?
Expensive imports can make British manufacturing more competitive. Country Sofas is the Scottish distributor for a family-run Stockport business boasting 25 years expertise manufacturing quality sofas to specification for individuals, businesses, councils and interior designers.
Efficiency, in-house productions, long standing relationships with suppliers and staff means Country Sofas can keep costs low. Operating from a farm steading also eliminates expensive showroom costs.
Customers receive a personal service, can relax, view sofas, mattresses and furniture in a no-pressure environment, find what they are looking for or be inspired.
Miriam pointed out: “Products are carefully selected for best value. With sofas our specialty, and over 30 styles to pick or customise, choosing an ideal sofa is simple and fun. If you think a custom-made sofa must be exorbitant, with prices from £570 it’s not!”
With a superior quality, hard wearing, hand made sofa, at less than High Street Prices, it is difficult to understand why anyone would settle for less.
